82 Employees Earn Presidential Award for Service

McKesson has a long, proud history of volunteer service. This year during National Volunteer Week, April 23-29, McKesson has teamed with hundreds of organizations and businesses across the country to deliver the President’s Volunteer Service Award to our most outstanding volunteers.

Established in 2003, the President’s Volunteer Service Award gives Presidential recognition to people who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service each year. The Award is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, a group created by President George W. Bush to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers make to our nation. Chaired by two-time Super Bowl Champion Darrell Green, with former U.S. Senators Bob Dole and John Glenn as honorary co-chairs, the Council is composed of known leaders as well as individual community volunteers.

McKesson identified eligible recipients through the AngelPoints program. There are three award levels based on the number of hours employee volunteers logged at www.mckessonvolunteers.com.

This year, 82 employees logged 100 or more service hours and have earned this prestigious honor. “Despite busy schedules, these employees have demonstrated true dedication to improving the quality of life for others and making a real difference in their communities,” said Carrie Varoquiers, director, Community Relations. Each award recipient will receive a certificate and a gold, silver, or bronze pin in recognition of their volunteer achievements.

Each year, thousands of employees represent McKesson in the community through their volunteer involvement. In the first year of the program, employees logged 16,521 hours into the AngelPoints system.  This year, the numbers jumped by nearly 50% to 24,333 volunteer hours. "We hope even more employees will take advantage of this great employee benefit in FY07," said Carrie.
